Creating a flavor crater of awesomeness, this West Coast IPA hopped exclusively with the one and only Citra hop is built for enjoyment. Tropically sweet hop flavors and aromas bring to mind ripe tangerine with an edge of passionfruit. Go ahead and crush it, gulp it, guzzle it, slam it.

This IPA is simple but in a good way. The hops are the star (as it should be). Also, it's a breath of fresh air to have a WC IPA at this time. There's just too many New England style ones lately. Overall this is a great IPA but because it lacks complexity it doesn't get a higher score.

Poured from a 16 ounce can into an IPA glass.

Look- Between pale and medium amber, clear, frothy slight off white head, average head retention and lacing.

Smell- Pine resin, tangerine, slightly floral/bready.

Taste- Tangerine, pine resin, bready.

Feel- Thin body, mildly astringent finish, crisp, moderate bitterness, average carbonation.

Overall- Good example of a West Coast IPA.

Review 1503

The first beer from Revision is a Citra hop IPA. Not sure what to expect. I have consumed a considerable amount of IPA lately. The bee is 44 degrees and served in a pint glass. I got a lovely hiss as I cracked it open, followed by foam. Pouring the beer into the glass. it created a three-fingered head with average retention. The bright white foamy, airy, and creamy head left some lacing on the glass. The head is not as dense as many IPA heads I have seen lately. The color of the beer is SRM 6, golden yellow with straw-like hues. A lot of carbonation existed but it has died down and every now again it lets me know that something still exists within. The appearance is average, I would have liked a denser head, but I am nit-picking.

Initial aromas in the beer are pineapple, grapefruit, oranges, and lemon peels. Nosing further in the glass, I detect lightly toasted crackers, floral esters, dankness, pine resin, and peaches.

The flavor in the beer is pineapple, danky basement, orange peels, lemons, dewy grass, toasted bread crust, mangos, passionfruit, floral, a hint of phenols, grapefruit, and pine needles.

The mouthfeel of the beer is astringent and tannic.

The body of the beer is medium, medium carbonation, and a medium-plus finish.

I love the Citra hops in the beer, but the dankness throws me off. The danky basement is just not my thing in a beer and lately, there have been a lot of danky beers. The malt in the beer is thin to me. For me the beer is thin, I thought the malt backbone would have more substance to it. The hops are solid for an IPA. It is an average IPA for me.

Can poured into a Revision Brewing Co beer glass

A: Pours golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and laces nicely.

S: Dank herbal notes, citrus zest, underlying tropical and stone fruit, a bit resinous, biscuity malt, and a touch of caramel sweetness.

T: Citrus, grapefruit, lemon, lime, and tangerine, resinous dank herbal notes, tropical and stone fruit, mango, passion fruit, lychee, peach, apricot, and a touch of melon, biscuity malt, and a little caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: It's kinda refreshing to get a Citra IPA with some bitterness after so many juice bombs. I think it helps the citrusy side stand out a bit over the tropical side, not to mention the signature Revision dankness.

Citra have such a nice, light yet dry taste, but they are stanky. So this citra slam buddy, like many others, is very refreshing. But stanky.

It pours clear yellow with little head. It smells like dirty underwear, something we relish as craft beer drinkers. The taste is sharp and dry. Even at whatever age this sample is, it is very dry. The aftertaste is clean enough for food yet nice and twangy.

Recommended. It's not a New England (but not that far from it), and that's just fine. A very well made brew. The can was quite full, but that seemed to work (even in my excessively cold fridge.

-hazy orange can pour with a 1 cm cap of fine foam.
The aroma is sweet with pineapple noted.
The flavor includes orange, pineapple and a bit of mango. The hop bitterness is low to moderate.
The flavors persist in the finish.
This is a flavorful brew.

Taster at Taphouse. Clear golden, nice fluffy head. Light citrusy aroma, lemons. Taste is also light on the palate, not what I was ecpecting from Revision. Full of flavor, and the hops really shine through.

16oz poured into an IPA snifter.

A: CRYSTAL clear gold...I am immediately reminded that this is NOT a 'typical' Revision NEIPA...lots of effervescence visible in the glass.

S: Big Citra on the nose (shocker); orange and tropical, slight melon character with impressions of pine and dankness as well.

T: Clean, hoppy palate; more papaya, mango, orange pith, and subdued piney hops and a touch of earthy dankness...maybe a hint of alcohol as well?

MF: Light/medium body with lower bitterness for a West Coast-style IPA...finishes moderately dry.

O: A nice IPA and a tasty backdrop for a single-hop profile.
