Notes: Collaboration with Belching Beaver Brewery

To dream of a brew so tasty it defies reality is the profession and past time of all brewers. This beer is another strive towards awesomeness; a result of teaming up with Belching Beaver and featuring Samba hops which offer notes of candied orange and mango.

Damn. As much as I love Revision, would’ve never bought this beer three months after it was canned on. Oh well. Can description read, “To dream of a brew so tasty it defies reality is the profession and past time of all brewers. This beer is another strive towards awesomeness; a result of teaming up with Belching Beaver and featuring Samba hops which offer notes of candied orange and mango.” No idea what Samba hops were heading in.

Poured a medium yellow-to-gold hazy color with three fingers of frothy white head. Just a few bubbles coming up from the bottom. Excellent lacing. Perfect retention. (Sight - 4.75)

Smelled Mosaic, floral, guava, passion fruit, juicy mango, tangerine, orange, peach and pineapple. A little better out of the can with guava, passion fruit and floral. (Smell - 4.00)

Tasted candied watermelon (must be El Dorado?), orange, tangerine, passion fruit, guava, floral, mango, peach, apricot, pineapple and hints of Werther’s candy. (Taste - 4.25)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, dry finish. (Feel - 4.25)

Took me a long time to figure out a few categories, but this was excellent. (Overall - 4.25)

16 oz can poured into a pint glass.

Cloudy orange with a 2 finger head-spotty lacing remains around the rim of the glass.

Light orange zest, lemon peel, tangerine and faint spice on the nose and palate.

Medium mouthfeel. Pretty smooth but could be softer.

This is a decent beer but nothing I would go out of my way for.

Look - Poured from refrigerated bottle to room temp glass. Poured looking almost like pale orange juice. Haze was evident in the pour. Poured with a small 1-2cm white head, and 10 mins after the pour very little remains - a bit on the sides and middle. A good degree of lacing.

Smell - First thing I thought when I smelled was "hops, pineapple, citrus". There is definitely that citrusy smell upon a deeper wiff. I believe I'm getting a hint of caramel and on the back end.

Taste - First impression from first sips was smooth balance of citrus/hops with a noticeable, soothing, warming sensation among the caramel-like finish.

Feel - Pretty standard IPA feel. A little bubbly and not too thin. It does lean on the thicker side when sipping, which is fine with me.

Overall a solid springtime beer with a great balance of citrus and hops. The warm finish is wonderful.

Can poured into a Revision Brewing Co beer glass

A: Pours hazy golden amber with a frothy eggshell white head that settles to a light layer and laces nicely.

S: Ripe almost candied tropical and stone fruit, a little citrus, slightly spicy herbal notes, biscuity malt and caramel sweetness.

T: Zesty citrus, orange and tangerine, tropical and stone fruit, pineapple, guava, passion fruit, peach, mango, and hints of melon, Jolly Rancher candies, spicy herbal undertones, biscuity malt, and caramel sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderately lively carbonation,

O: First beer I've had with Samba hops. They kinda remind me of El Dorado meets Azacca. This one does a solid job of showing them off.

A: The beer is very hazy to cloudy light yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high bright white head that died down, leaving a webbing of bubbles on the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of mangos, pineapples and tangerine are present in the nose.
T: The taste has favors of oranges, pineapples and tangerine along with notes of stone fruit and hints of grapefruit. No bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels medium-bodied and juicy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This New England-style IPA is very juicy and does a good job at showcasing the Samba hops in both the smell and taste.

this one is done with belching beaver, another hazy from revision thats some different from the hundred others they make. its brewed with samba hops, which i know almost nothing about, so kind of cool to get to learn something as i drink such a delicious ipa. its yellow and quite cloudy, a little muted in town, and not quite as heady as the best of theirs, but looks pretty good now that i am finally accepting they are here to stay and can appreciate the visual appeal of a "nice looking" hazy. it smells like a can of crushed pineapple and the first hit of some slightly harsh weed, immediately a little green, but very fresh to me, they are doing a good job of getting their beers here nice and fresh. this has some mandarin orange, tangerine, and even passion fruit brightness to it, super sunny in complexion, i wish the beer was just a little less heavy, starchy, and kind of raw, like these hops would work pretty nicely in a clearer ipa too, this is a little soupy in texture, and thats always a weird contrast to me in these, like that feel doesnt match the exceedingly bright and easy going nature of the hops. splashy citrus in the finish, a light candy sweetness, and more pineapple from the can, a unique hop i would love to try in a simpler and lighter ipa or pale ale context. this is tasty, but two would be the absolute max i would want to drink. could use a little cleaning up, but i am excited about this cool new hops, and seems like a solid introduction to it. ill keep buying everything revision sends up this way!

Draft at the Handlebar. Normal pour, grapefruit juice look. Mellow aroma and taste lean on tropical fruity notes, with an almost brut like dryness. Full bodied, but subdued.
