Draft at Bar Gernika. Dark, clear amber, lasting cap of creamy head. Aroma and taste feature light toasted malts and a gentle hop bitterness. Solid red / amber ale.

Pint at Westside Taphouse in West Salem OR.
$7.00.
Poured a darker amder/garnet. Small bubbly beige head.
Toasty malty aromas.
Taste the same. But really nice darker malts.
Great mouth feel. Really easy and not too sweet.
A nice simple yet effective beer

Pours a rusty amber, mainly clear, with a nice little puff of offwhite head that settles down and disappears completely by the time I have finished typing. No retention/lacing whatsoever.

Nose has some grainy malts and a touch of caramel, but a streak of like green hay to it as well that gives it a kind of vegetal aroma that isn't my personal favourite.

Flavour has a similar profile: straw grains lay the foundation, but then the sweetness that I would normally look to caramel and those type of flavours is manifested in a more vinous almost grape-like character that I get a lot of times with heavy wheat additions. I have no idea if there's wheat in here (I don't think there is, based on the blurb on the can), but it is just what it reminds me of. Decent little bulge of pleasant bitterness on the finish.

Smoothe and rounded body. Little pricks of carbonation. Finish has that pleasant lasting bitterness.

Overall it's fine. Reds are not a sexy or popular style and I don't feel like this is going to change any opinions on that front, but it's pleasant enough on a toasty summer afternoon of housework.

Can pour - clear amber/burnished copper with quickly receding off white head leaving minimal scattered lacing. Nose is mostly mild sweet malt earthinesss. Taste follows with some bready and carmelly notes and a hint of hop bite. Very smooth finish.

Can dated 05/17/21 into a tulip glass.

L: Pours vibrant mahogany with 0.5 finger of low density head with limited retention and left no lacing.

S: Nose is heavy on sweet malt attributes and earthiness, perhaps some hints of floral and dank elements hiding underneath.

T: Far more enjoyable for my palate and preferences. Follows the nose to a degree, but adds in a spicy note from the Amarillo. Finishes with mild bitterness and some acidity, acidity lingers.

F: Medium bodied with medium-high carbonation, tongue tingles a bit from the acidity, slick on the swallow.

O: Not my preference for a red/amber. Needs more bitterness, at a minimum, for me to consider repeating.

On tap at Native Son Alehouse in Santa Ana, CA.

This one is a winner like Joaquin Phoenix giving an award speech. I mean, rawhide! Like Robert Mitchum in “The Lusty Men,” I agree with this. Smooth and balanced like a French trapeze artist…

Raul is into it.
