2020 wax-topped bottling, poured into a snifter.
A: Very dark jet-black pour with no light showing through; small mocha-colored head and fades quickly.
S: Strong smack of bourbon with a good dose of brown sugar and toffee, along with a dry, oaky barrel char and mild spice.
T: The palate blends well and is fairly mellow as far as alcohol heat; dark caramel, chocolate, oak, espresso, and some bourbon barrel/oaky char are all there. Just a bit of sticky alcohol bitterness with some spice as well.
MF: Almost full bodied, alcohol hidden well.
O: I thought this was excellent, and really showcased the Four Roses bourbon very well. There is a nice roasty base beer under there as well.

A very nice "outside the box" offering from a hard working brewery from my own home town (Sparks, NV), dedicated brewers who usually lean toward the hophead discipline. Best known for their IPAs, I was glad to see this barrel aged stout offering and more than happy to give this a try. Black as night and smoother than I expected from a brewery that doesn't do this style regularly. Great job guys, and hope to see you continue to expand your offerings and expertise.
One general footnote: I totally get that waxed dipped bottle caps look cool, but it took me 10 minutes to open this bottle, and almost cut my finger twice......Is it just me??

Thick like oil but tasty. The Four Rose barrels are present but not the main show.
