When harvesting coffee cherries, it’s important not to damage the woody evergreens on which they grow— a gentle “tickle” is all it takes to shake them loose. The base of this rich imperial stout is laden with notes of espresso and dark chocolate then taken to the next level with a blend of expertly-roasted Guatemalan and Sumatran coffee beans.

cool that they use multiple origins of coffee for this, intentionally bringing out the best parts of each in an impressive imperial stout. usually coffee beer doesnt hold up super well over the years, but our can says 2021 on the bottom and its doing just fine, very little if any coffee fade, yeah its got some late onset coffee bitterness, but its not oxidized or anything, great with all the robust in the base stout, a sturdy beer but one that hides its alcohol pretty darn well considering its strength. shiny black in the glass, not overly viscous for what it is, almost an inch of tan head rising up all creamy and lasting. the nose and taste of this are identical, the coffee leads, on one hand very bitter, strong brewed, and intense on all the dark notes, on the other showcasing some more nuance, raisin and leather and date, a little fruity sweetness, suggesting maybe a natural or honey process on one of these coffees. there is only light acidity from the coffee too, which means maybe it was cold brewed and blended in after the ferment, but what is there serves to dry out the finish and cut down on the body so it really doesnt drink too heavy at all. uniquely, its on the dry side, which makes it almost refreshing like a cold brew coffee on ice on a hot day, and there is enough carbonation to keep this moving. it warms up well but we hardly let it, no sign of its alcohol, and without as much body heft as a lot of these have. subtle tobacco, brown sugar, and licorice spice on the swallow, a little mid palate creaminess, and some lasting bitter intensity from the java, but its not out of place. nice quality stout overall, almost as much coffee as it is beer to me. huge thanks to my friend for acquiring and sharing some cool revision cans this weekend! surprised how good this still is for being a little older now, definitely uncommon...

16oz can. No dating information found, but purchased at the taproom.
Black colored body, with red mahogany back lit edge. Brief tan head. Leaves scattered spots of lacing.
Aroma is rather closed, but does yield some espresso notes and dark roasted malts.
Taste is coffee driven, with espresso notes on top of dark roasted malts. There are some chocolate flavors expressed also, mostly 60% dark chocolate. Semisweet chocolate and coffee in the aftertaste.
Medium mouth feel. Dry finish. Good carbonation.
Coffee infused stout, with some chocolate.

Appearance: Pours a black opaque color, with a thick, frothy foam head.

Aroma: Toasted chocolate malts. Slight bit of hoppiness.

Taste: chocolaty malti sweetness with some roasty toasted characteristics. Rich coffee almost like a cappuccino. Slight bitter twang at the end. Lingering finish.

Overall: pretty solid stout here. Glad I bought this one.

Poured from a 16 ounce can with no date into a snifter.

Look- Black, opaque, frothy medium brown head, average head retention, above average lacing.

Smell- Very vibrant, coffee, cocoa.

Taste- Coffee, coffee, coffee, subtle cocoa.

Feel- Full body, creamy, syrup like, high bitterness, highly mouth coating, below average carbonation.

Overall- Very coffee forward with subtle hints of cocoa. More bitterness than most stouts, but on par with the coffee flavor. This would be a wonderful early day beer.
