seems like these guys have fallen off a cliff in idaho, for awhile there it was new flavors all the time, tons of innovation, and the stuff was everywhere, but i think the combination of the absurd prices and some business changes on their end have led to a bit of a decline in these parts. it was cool to check out their downtown reno joint space with lead dog, did not know those two were connected, but its a fun spot and there were lots of new to me beers flowing there, glad we made it in. this one looks and smells and tastes like orange juice, a fine beer for a first of the day in the morning, which is what it was for me. pretty densely hazy but not at the expense of its brightness, halfway between yellow and orange, and even kind of pulpy looking, short white head on top is all. the aroma and flavor are lively and juicy, mango and peach and papaya along with obvious navel orange character, citra, strata, and motueka in here, but to me the citra is the dominant player, citrus forward the whole way, flavor too, and the grain is actually light on flavor for how full this actually feels, some wheat im sure, but its not really earthy or grounding or anything, its just kind of starchy and thick, maybe slightly sweet extending the hops a bit, but this isnt grain flavored to me. the hops do have some bitterness and i suppose a light greenness to them, but its fresh and pungent and a little bit summery, maybe a hint of coconut from the strata, a little something from the ferment but mostly clean, warms up okay but i like it best right when its poured. i dont think this is a standout in the long line of great hazy beers these guys have done, but its solid and has a lot of personality, enjoyable if a little heavy for making a day out of. i miss the more steady flow of their stuff into idaho...
