a tasty west coast ipa with a whole mess of hops and a very simple but not neutral grain base, some kind of homebrew winner that got scaled up, this was one of my favorites from our visit to their shared location with lead dog, lots of cool beers flowing in here. honey colored to just a little deeper, brassy looking with some body, frothy white head from the tap, not quite clear but still light enough looking, bubbly, light shine. the nose is great, a whole heap of different hops coming together to yield mango, pineapple, and spruce character, both herbal and fruity at the same time to me, with a little honey type grain sweetness in play as well, fresh and very compatible, less bitter seeming here than i usually think of with west coast types, more dry hoppy, light white grape character, clean ferment, good minerality, plenty fresh. the flavor is similar, a little more citrus to it, but still with a botanical lift and a slight tropical thing too, lime leaf, lime zest, and white grapefruit to me. middle of the road bitterness is balanced out well by this malt, good body without being heavy, balanced without being sugary, and with some nice cereal character as a counterpoint to the fruity hops. nice drinkability here, and overall i think pretty complex and well layered on the hops, not too intense, very enjoyable.
