Crisp two-row, flaked wheat and flaked oats round out the grain bill on this soft, and surprisingly palatable 8% double IPA. But it's the intense double dry hop of Simcoe, Citra and Ekuanot powder that will keep you coming back for more of the juice.

Pours an opaque medium-orange with two fingers of dense, white foam. Head retention is good. Aroma is papaya, tangerine, domestic orange and freshly-squeezed lemon. Flavor profile is soft and ripe notes of papaya, tangerine, domestic orange, freshly-squeezed lemon and a touch of grassy hops. Yeast forms a soft, but lightly zesty and spicy, quality on the back of the palate. Very well rounded. Mouth feel is soft, but smooth, netting out a creamy consistency. Overall, the creamy consistency really sells this one well with each sip providing a smooth induction of tropical fruits.

My bro in law brought a can of this over for the holidays. It poured a cloudy yellow with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent with tropic fruit peel flare. The taste has good citrus presence. The mouthfeel is lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it's a solid beer.

16oz can, dated 10.31.17, poured into a 14oz snifter glass.
The beer pours a hazy and cloudy golden straw color with a thick finger of white head, moderate retention but nice striations of soapy lace. The aroma is good, bitter pine, grassy hops, raw hop leaf, hop spice, very dank with some bright floral notes and bitter citrus peel while there is a nice counterbalance of crusty pale malt. The flavors are quite nice, lots of dank and earthy pine, grassy and oily green hop leaf, bitter citrus rind, lightly floral with some brighter tropical fruits and lots of soft and pale grain. The mouthfeel is good, coating medium body, lively but not abrasive, easy drinking for the ABV with a very dry finish.
Verdict: A very good IPA from Southern Swells, tons of earthy and bitter flavors which is how I like my IPAs. New England IPA in appearance but West Coast IPA in flavor, a nice combination for sure. There is a bit of booziness to this one that just keeps it from reaching its potential though.

FINALLY!!! After all the feable attempts of a NE IPA in Jacksonville, Southern Swells has finally done it. Hazy, tropical fruit on the nose. Just, with a definite hop presence. Soft and pillow-like feel. If you are in the Jacksonville area, you MUST seek this out!
