An American classic with a twist. We add a touch of sweet orange peel to the end of this pale golden ale to make it a bit more refreshing.

Had this on tap, By the time it got to me there was no head. Not much going on here. Aromas or flavours. Basically, cereals and corn dominate them but somewhat on the sweet side. Pours a clear gold colour with no bitterness while it was on the high end of the carbonation scale. Despite this review, I still enjoyed it for what it was.

$10.39 USD per sixer plus tax at a Homeland grocer in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

5% ABV per the can. "Cream Ale."

APPEARANCE: Pours a minimal head that isn't real robust, lasting maybe 30 seconds. Off-white in colour with dull grey hues.

Body is a more vibrant pale copper. Boasts excellent clarity; obviously filtered. Free of any sediment or lees.

Looks clean, but it isn't as lively or vibrant as one would hope.

AROMA: 6-row. Ale yeast derived fruity esters. Green apple. Corn. A scintilla of orange peel.

Not getting any floral or piney aromatics from the Centennial hops.

Promises a clean drinking cream ale rife with corn adjunct.

TASTE: Pretty much precisely what the aroma promised, albeit shallow and simplistic. Has a cheap taste to it I'd pin on the base malts (tastes like cheap 6-row to me mingled with cheap flaked corn). The barely noticeable presence of orange peel adds unneeded sweetness and little flavour.

TEXTURE: A bit on the syrupy/thick side. Well carbonated. Smooth, wet, unrefreshing.

OVERALL: I'd rather drink Genny, but I guess it's nice to see a cream ale in the Oklahoma market. Wouldn't buy this again especially at its high price point relative to something like Genny.

Pours to a thin head that falls to a ring and half-ass attempts at lacing. Clear dark straw color. Aroma is sweet pale grains and a whiff of hops and orange peel (which is expected because the recipe contains them). Flavor is crisp, dry and light. Easy to quaff and sessionable. MF is light and bubbly. A great beer to get any time, especially on tap.

Tap.

A: Rich golden color. One finger head. Fairly rapid dissipation. Moderate to ample carbonation as medium sized bubbles readily float to the surface.

S: light malts with a splash of adjunct. Corn? Hobs are subdued but some spicy herbal notes seem to peek through.

T: Opens up with a light malt sweetness. Round fruitiness in the mid palate with not too terribly much in the hops/bitterness department. What does come through tastes mildly Noble (Saaz, etc). Finish is picks up a distinct cornbread/polenta sweetness. Finishes with a fruity and slightly estery dryness.

M: Soft and round. Medium bodied. Carbonation does enough to lift the malt bill off that palate. Fairly refreshing.

O: Crushable. Lawnmower beer for sure. Wish it were a little dryer on the back end and about 5 ibus more bitter. Still a fine offering.

Not sure I've ever had a cream ale before. Just not my thing (or so I thought). But this one came highly recommended, and I can always get to some Vanessa House, so here goes.

Pours a sharp, clear yellow. Fizzy and topped with a bubbly white froth that sticks.

Straw and very faint light fruit to the nose.

Light fruits and a faint honey sweetness greet the tongue. Creamy too of course.

Light, flavorful, well put together and tons o' fun.

I will admit I had a preconceived notion of what a "cream" ale would be, and apparently I've been missing out. What a smooth operator right here.

On tap into a pint glass. Pours an amber color with a one finger head that barely lingers and doesn't leave lacing. Subtle nose of spicy hops and caramel malt. Tastes is caramel malt and a slight grassiness with a small punch of spicy hops on the back end. Medium body and medium carbonation with no aftertastes.
This feels more like an amber than a cream ale to me. A smoother and creamier body would've helped the style claim. It's the brewer's flagship beer and feels like a beer that you'd drink at a football game tailgate. Not overly complex or ambitious, but it's done well enough to have a few.
