Appearance:
From 64 oz. Growler: Pours to two finger white creamy head that falls to a thin layer and laces moderately. Medium clear yellow.
Aroma:
Clean pale malt with a lemongrass twang form the Hallertau Blanc hops. There is a white grape/fruit note in there that may be from either the hops or the yeast.
Flavor:
Clean, semi-dry malt and a balancing charge of soft resiny noble hop bitterness that resolves to a long, mildly hoppy and fruity ale-like finish.
Mouthfeel:
Light to medium, moderate CO2 and no astringency or EtOH burn. Crisp and pleasing to the mouth.
Overall:
A very good US brewpub Kölsch style that is easy drinking and refreshing. You get some skewing by the brewers that deviates a bit from style, but you have to give them credit for wanting to make it unique. Hallertau Blanc is more of a New World Hop, so this beer smells and tastes a bit like an APA but still has some grassiness of noble hops. That is to be expected stateside. But overall, Rad City honors the spirit of the brewing tradition of Köln.
