We blended our Black IPA with cold brew Sumatra from Warrior Coffee in Fredericksburg, VA. Our Black IPA was brewed with Nugget and Cascade hops which balance with the spiced citrus and dark chocolate notes of the Sumatra coffee to create a bold, blended experience.

On tap at brewery:
Lovely pour of dark brown with beige head that covers most of the surface the whole pour. Lacing is spotty.
Nose is a tad weak initially, but coffee slowly becomes more obvious from the roasted malts with warmth. A light floral hop aspect is also noted.
There's a raw hop bitterness that combines with the roasted notes and above average carbonation bite to make this a little rough on the palate.
An early green hop bitterness never quite fades. This green stalk bitterness (broccoli stem, woody asparagus) combo bed with the roasted malt and presumably coffee to yield a fairly bitter brew. Letting this sit improves the feel a tad, but the raw flavors need something cohesive that just seems missing.
The end taste in this beer is nice, as the raw/roughness fades, there is a nice roasted coffee bean lingering flavor that is smooth and enjoyable. I wish it didn't take the rough ride to get there.
