Can opened at the brewery, canned 10/28/21
Continuing on with the RI brewery journey, we made a stop at Buttonwoods/Origin. Starting off with Buttonwoods, naturally I had to get a rum BA Barleywine seeing it on the menu. Let’s get into it
Pours a mostly clear deep orange gold with a finger of off white head that fades to a thin cap and leaves minimal lacing
This is very sweet in the nose, but not in a bad way. The rum barrel is just very evident. I’m picking up on aromas of sweet caramel, dark rum, golden raisin, fresh oak, vanilla, burnt sugar, and light orange marmalade
Oh man, this sadly has a big quality drop in taste, it’s just way too sweet and boozy even for the style, honestly more like a Wheatwine. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting orange zest, sweet toffee, white rum, golden raisin, and honey. The swallow brings notes of dark rum, sticky caramel, coconut, orange marmalade, and sweet vanilla
A medium full body pairs with gentle tingling carbonation, resulting in a hot and slick beer. Finishes sticky sweet and boozy
I’m honestly quite disappointed by this one. It’s not the worst thing I’ve ever had, but it just doesn’t feel like a great execution of Barleywine. Oh well
