Pours a lovely, dull mahogany hie with a loose, off-white head that clusters into a froth around the shoulders. Nose is interesting - woody, fruity, and butterscotch. Taste consistent with nose. What’s interesting is the lack of hops presence you typically see in an American barleywine. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with an easy carbonation and a mild acidity. Overall, interesting - nice complexity, minus the hops presence and pleasantly malty without being cloying. Not much of the barrel present.
