This year we utilized pumpkins in the mash as usual but updated the grain bill so that half of it was bourbon barrel aged pale ale malt from our friends at Sugar C reek Malt Co. Even though this beer didn’t touch any oak during fermentation, it has a nice, light oak and bourbon character in the background due to the malt.

Murky faded brown body with a cream cap. What I liked abut saison meer: autumn with the wild saison and pumpkin with spices interacting was nuance and somewhat delicate. This is much more heavy handed, a detriment, much more grainy and bready, and has large earth and booze underpinnings, melds well with the pumpkin and brown sugar, but the wild nature is reduced to muted wild yeast. Smell lets the spice sing more, but otherwise the same. Feel is heavy, spiced, has a bretty tartness that is funky not in a good way. Very niche, not for me
