This is a milk stout, also called sweet stout or cream stout because it contains lactose, a sugar derived from milk. Since lactose cannot be fermented by beer yeast, it adds sweetness, body, and energy. This medium-bodied dark ale is brewed with dark malt, crystal malt as well as oats. This beer is utter perfection with raw New England oysters as well as a beef stew, steak, or classic Yankee pot roast.
