Poured from 440mL can into a tall kitchen glass. Best by 9/13/23. The label calls this a "double black IPA".
Appearance: rich, dark brown hue, with minimal light let through the body. Head is a finger of frothy tan foam that subsides pretty quickly.
Smell: some roasty malt, along with a little bit of yeasty character; over all of this, however, is a sour element that for me doesn't work at all. I don't know if it's the hopping or what, but I don't really care for it.
Taste: yup, wow, that hop (or whatever) character I don't care for in the aroma is in the flavor as well. This pops up right at the front of the flavor. It finishes with a long, roasty, caramelly malt flavor, that I actually kind of like. But first impressions are everything, and the first impression this beer leaves is not a good one.
Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: I'm sure this beer has fans out there -- but I'm not one of them.
