Look: Clear pale straw color. No head at all. Lighter carbonation leading to a lower bubble action.
Smell: Slight yeast scent. Swirling the glass kicks up a green grape / white wine scent and stronger yeast.
Taste: Light malt and nut flavors with a faint green grape / white wine. Bitters start about half way through and through the finish into the aftertaste.
Feel: The lighter carbonation leads to a light foam that can be swallowed at any stage. Light prickling on the tongue.
Overall: Pleasant enough replacement for commercially brewed lager. Wouldn't scare away the sportsball watching fans.

First of a flight of 4. Decent for what it is. Also under-rated.
But I'm not going to argue against the average.
Instead, I went on VI's website and read that they have been brewing 34 years (that makes them senior.)
And they have the flavor for this Northwest island.
Even tho that involves lots of rain and clouds, that's worth an OA hug.

Strangely, I am *totally* on-board with the trend of craft brewers trying their hand at the "Mexican-style" lager (see El Sully and others). And I think the trend makes more sense in Canada, where this stuff is *actually* cheaper than just buying plain-old Corona.
I will not offer tasting notes. Drink it cold, add a lime, drink it from the can, and it's like a more well-rounded version of a taste you're no-doubt familiar with. Very "crushable," as the kids say, even if that's a stupid word.

355ml can poured into tulip 11/4/17
a clear straw yellow with some of the biggest bubbles I've ever seen, pours a giant three finger foam that's gone in a flash, I turned my head for a moment and gone, no lace
S wet leaves, grass, maybe some apple, kinda skunky, sweet corn malt, it is what it claims
T more of the same really, some musty hard to place something going on, pretty meh
M light as can be, a little flat and dead, a little slick inside with a sweet grainy finish
O its a step up on the Corona's of the world but in all fairness that can be said about almost every beer
Congratulations VI Brewing!! you made a Mexican lager fairly true to style

355ml can, part of a rather cheap-looking mixed 12-pack from this brewery to recently show up in Alberta. So named after the nearby body of water that separates Canada from its southern neighbour.
This beer pours a clear, bright pale golden yellow colour, with four fingers of puffy, shiny, and somewhat creamy bone-white head, which leaves some decent scattered sudsy lace around the glass as it lazily sinks away.
It smells of buttered white bread, musty dead yeast, sweet cornmeal, and some weird herbal and dank grassy bitterness. The taste is more oleo-slathered breadiness, some mild apple/pear fruity notes, an ethereal earthy yeastiness, and more unpleasant vegetal, herbal, and scorched grass verdant 'hoppiness'.
The carbonation is adequate in its quotidian frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and generally smooth, I suppose, but kind of clammy at the same time. It finishes way too sweet, and pandering, and just not, well, just not.
Overall, this is at least up front about what it is, rather than claiming full-on craft cred (still looking at you, Minhas). Too sweet, cloying at times, and with a weird green character that I don't care to ever taste again. Better than Corona? Sure, but that's hardly worth crowing about.
