355ml can - apparently named after the traditional Japanese fishing floats that have washed up on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Ya learn something new every day!

This beer pours a mostly clear, medium golden yellow colour, with three fingers of puffy, rocky, and mildly bubbly eggshell white head, which leaves some decent old forest growth pattern lace around the glass as it slowly sinks out of sight.

It smells of bright exotic citrus flesh, pear-like lychee, grainy and bready cereal malt, a peppery yeastiness, and some faint earthy, musty, and floral hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, watery orange juice, a now muddled tropical fruitiness, white and black pepper dust, some subtle Belgian yeast, and more leafy, weedy, and musky floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is adequate in its palate-coating frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and generally smooth, with just a soupcon of estery yeast taking things down a notch or two here. It finishes off-dry, the Asian fruit character showing some lingering prominence.

Overall - this is a very pleasant, frooted-up offering, with the Saison character sort of suppressed, but that's a-ok with this trainspotter, as usual. Crisp, refreshing, and a perfect foil to another hot and sunny day in Wild Rose Country.
