French farmhouse ale. Malt-forward, mixed culture, complex brew. A lot going on in this beer- dark cherry notes from the malts and a slight funkyness from the wild yeast.

Enjoyed a 12 oz serving 7-22-22 at the Old Fort location with lunch.
Beer was served blonde with a nice white head.
Nose was okay, malt forward and a touch of yeast esters.
Taste was a medium malt base with a touch of dark cherries finishing fairly clean with a nice balancing hop.
Mouthfeel was medium bodied and fairly refreshing.
Overall a solid beer. Nice to have this style as i do not see it often!

Drinking this at the Hillman Brewery located in Old Fort NC.
Poured from a tap.
Appears a slightly hazy golden yellow.
Smells lightly bready, sweet, malty, and ever so slightly funky.
Taste follows the nose, but the malty aspect overpowers the field house funkiness usually inherent in the style.
Mouth feel is medium for the style.
Overall a nice beer but I'd probably skip next time.

Straw yellow. Thine white head. Lots of rising bubbles. Sharp carbonation. Appropriate amount of tartness for the style, but otherwise not much flavor.

This Biere De Garde is of the brown variety. It has a deep, chestnut color with light haze (SRM 24-27). The head is fine and foamy, light taupe, that holds two inches for a few minutes before settling at one quarter inch. Lonely islands of lace are left on a Pretentious Beer Glass Company tulip glass.
This smells like a Brown Ale with light, sour notes. Lots of musty malt and some wheat bread dough come through.
Okay, this is not a Brown Ale. It is clearly a Biere De Garde. Earthy with light sourness and lots of umami. It reminds me of Morrell mushrooms. The wheat bread dough is prominent against the fruitiness of cherries and cranberries. The finish starts medium before fading to a long, drawn-out mildness.
The light body and hard, smooth texture accentuate fine, fizzy carbonation. Alcohol is significantly lower than expected, and 8.3% ABV seems high even if it is within the style guidelines. Warmth brings out light astringency.
I finished the half growler after the first real snow of the season. Unfortunately, while tasty, this beer lacked real distinction. A bit of tuning up would help this beer become less muddy.
