Originally brewed once a year and exclusively served in the Altstadt taproom, we brew Year Lator Doppelbock to celebrate another year of brewing traditional German beers. This doppelbock is brewed in small batches with Vienna, Munich and Abbey malts. Decoction-mashing leads to a full-bodied, smooth and very malty flavor worthy of the style originally brewed in Bavarian monasteries. And yes, we meant to spell “Lator” that way!

Drank 3/16/26. Canned
Pour is a rich amber / brown with a nice full cap of beige foam. good retention
Nose is caramel, toffee, rich, toasted bread / malt.
Taste follows. Rich toasted malt / bread. Caramel, toffee, a bit nutty. light floral hops. nicely balanced
Smooth, full body, with medium carbonation.
Easy to drink. Delicious beer. sweet, but expected for the style. not overly sweet. certainly not cloying

Looks thin and uncarbonated with a minor head that dissipates quickly. Like thin maple syrup sitting in the pint glass now.
Smells malt-terrific of dark fruity/ figgy malts and inviting bread notes.
This just makes up for its paltry appearance. What a flavorful doppelbock. Taste follows the aroma, and there’s a nutty finish. Robust beer.
Feels hearty, thick smooth.
It’s a heavy beer, but nails the style despite appearance after pour.

Nice amber / light brown pour, thin but steady khaki head. Nose is caramel and dark bread.
Taste hits hard with the caramel, deep rich chewy bread, toasted malt, some fig, floral, gentle woodiness. Mouthfeel is full and velvety. Finish is a pool of caramel and toffee with a gentle floral note, but the ABV starts to creep in.

A nice surprise, looking for a Doppelbock substitute for the woefully absent Spaten Optimator. Closer to a Paulaner Salvator in appearance and mouth feel, fairly effervescent but not overly so, nice clarity. The 19.2 oz can I bought lists the ABV at 8%, not 7%. I won't opine on head retention as I put little effort into the glass I poured it into.
A nice find for a beer snob who still prefers the classics.
