Got this from Emma & Terry a while back. Cheers!
From a 500ml bottle into a snifter
Coffee Cake Bread Pudding Imperial Stout
APPEARANCE: Pours out clear black but nice a syrupy, yielding a three finger, medium-thicker looking, creamy, frothy tan head with excellent retention. Lovely looking head on this one. Black body with higher levels of carbonation evident. Frothy head slowly recedes to a full, frothy cap and leaves nice lacing clinging to the glass.
SMELL: Bold nose of roasted malts, vanilla cream, coffee aromas, milk chocolate and some nutmeg on the nose. A touch of the spicy stuff with a nice roasted coffee character. Good stuff.
TASTE: Roasted malts, roasted coffee, some vanilla cream and milk chocolate up front, with a solid roasted and spicy finish. Bold and persistent finish of roasted and burnt malts, bitter espresso flavors, some vanilla cream, milk chocolate, some spicy notes of nutmeg and a touch of peppers, with a note of alcohol lingering on the palate. Bid, flavorful, with lots of roasted and bitter coffee character, as well as a touch of spicy flavoring. Good stuff.
PALATE: Fuller body with slightly lower levels of carbonation. Silky and smooth on the palate, goes down smooth with no bite and finishes quite mouth-coating. A dose of bitterness lingers.
OVERALL: This is really, really good. The look is great, nice and syrupy with a great head, the nose is bold and enticing, and the flavor is bang on. Great thick and syrupy slick feel on this one too. Love the slight spicy hit, as it matches the bitter espresso character very nicely. Definitely a good one and a bit of time in the bottle hasn’t hurt it at all. Well, that’s a strong assumption, as I can’t compare it to a fresh bottle. Let’s just say it’s great the way it is now. I don’t see a bottling date on this, but if you have one, go to town now. Thanks again guys. Cheers!
Note: I realize now that I might be entering an older, retired beer. Still, this sucker, even after several years in my parents' basement, is so dam good that the beer Gods mandate there be a record of it on BA. Cheers!
