On tap at Merit. 12oz pour into a flat bottomed glass. Rum barrel aged Barleywine. 3,100th review.
Appearance - Murky walnut brown color with a finger of fairly quickly receding tan head.
Smell - Big molasses and treacle notes initially. Some dark fruits and barrel with an undercurrent of vanilla and rum.
Taste - Some rum, hints of vanilla, treacle and marshmallow. Restrained bitterness but this one leans sweet. Boozy but hidden well enough. More bitterness kicks in after a few sips.
Mouthfeel - Smooth and full bodied, a sipper for sure. Carbonation is modest with lots of micro bubbles.
Overall - A nice take on an uncommon style with a good variety of flavors and aromas. Complex and well put together.
