473ml can served cool into a pint glass. LCBO purchase. German originated brewed in Canada. Canned July 21, 2025.

Appearance - Hazy honey brown color with two fingers of fluffy white head. Good staying power and a nice curtain style lacing.

Smell - Extremely fruit forward with passionfruit being the star, interlaced with pineapple, melon and some berries.

Taste - Quite fruit forward again with passionfruit leading the way and soft peaches, pineapple and melon and berries making their presence felt. Wheat malt backbone.

Mouthfeel - Soft fleshy body with low carbonation, medium body and crisp but juicy finish.

Overall - A treat of a beer, balanced and truly representative of the NEIPA style.

473 mL can from the LCBO; dated Jul 21 2025 and served barely chilled. Represented by the Craft Brand Company, and brewed by Fuerst Wiacek in Niagara Falls for the Canadian market. That puts this one in a boat similar to that of Omnipollo, Mikkeller, and a handful of other non-local breweries which brew & market (a small selection of) their products in Ontario.

Pours hazy and turbid, its pale golden amber-coloured body crowned with nearly two fingers of lumpy, foamy white head. Great retention - roughly ten minutes later, it has been reduced to a creamy collar and a frothy cap, with gobs of gorgeous lace adhering to the glass; looks fantastic. Enticing aromas of pineapple, passion fruit, grapefruit and lime, with hints of melon, gooseberry, and high quality weed.

A tasty brew, that's for sure. Juicy at the forefront, with pineapple, grapefruit and passion fruit supported by bready, wheaty pale malt scaffolding; hints of lime and stone fruit can also be discerned. More resiny/dank on the back end, with piney, herbal hops adding a little bit of bitterness to the profile; citrusy, juicy aftertaste that fades within a few seconds. The 6.8% is very well-integrated, making for a potentially dangerously drinkable brew. Medium-full body with low carbonation; feels pillowy soft and exceptionally smooth.

Final Grade: 4.17, an A-. I've seen plenty of North American interpretations of German styles, but German interpretations of North American styles are practically impossible to find around here. That makes Eat the Salad a very rare animal, at least in my neck of the woods. You could call this the first German IPA I've ever tried - I suppose not technically, as the contents of this can were brewed in Canada - but it's still a German recipe brewed under the supervision of a German brewery. That alone makes it worth keeping an eye out for, but thankfully it's also a pretty darn good DDH NEIPA. Try it if you can find it.

Pours a hazy, bright orange coloration with a medium, fluffy head. Smells of light biscuity malt and citrus/tropical hops, with notes of grapefruit, lime peel, mango and pineapple. Taste follows the nose, with a great balance of light biscuity malt and fruity, juicy, slightly dank and resinous hops, with citrus and tropical notes of grapefruit, lime peel, mango, pineapple and hints of grassy weed and pine. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some lime peel and mango lingering in the aftertaste. Soft mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.

While I'm really starting to get sick of New England IPAs in general, this is at least a decent German example of the style for a change, that gets the style's hazy look, soft mouthfeel and juicy hops right with some pretty expressive and well-defined, quite zesty and somewhat tangy citrus and tropical notes, while also featuring some light dank and resinous accents to make things a bit more interesting.
