at its base, this is just a pale ale, possibly with a little wheat malt in it, there is a cloudy appearance and a little more body than i had anticipated, but the malt flavor is simple, and the hops are scaled back a little compared to what is popular in the states right now, with a mild balancing bitterness and gentle citrus character, but gentle overall. what makes this beer special though, and it is very special (hands down my favorite of the four i had at this awesome place), is the use of mango. i have had way too many bad mango beers in my lifetime, so i was not expecting something so simple to be so brilliant. the fruit in here is insanely authentic, tart and sweet at the same time, at the peak of ripeness, and screams real fruit and lots of it. my mouth waters thinking about it now. its like pulpy and stringy and texturally right too, and its subtle, not overtaking an already rather delicate pale, but its impact here is from its freshness and realness, not from a high dosage. so ripe and fresh, and its amazing with the hops in the finish. its at once refreshing and memorable, probably the best use of real mango i have ever seen in a beer, and this is the right type of beer, proportioned perfectly, to showcase it. this was hands down my favorite beer we had in here, and one i would come here for again and again if it wasnt so darn far away! enormously impressive beer, maybe the best beer we had on our whole trip to costa rica... cant say enough about it!
