a super well made brown, definitely on the darker end of the spectrum as the name suggests, but low enough alcohol and dry enough to be fairly easy drinking, even in the humid heat here, which i think is a near necessity in this mostly open air taproom. a rich chocolate brown color underneath a thicker head than any of their other beers had. this has a lot going on, arguably the most complex beer they had on while i was there. there is a nice toasted chestnut flavor here, dry cocoa powder, bakers chocolate, and a light roasted coffee bean yet to be ground or brewed. there is also a rich bready complexion from the malt in the middle of this, likely a number of specialty malts to thank for this, it has more body and more grain nuance than almost any straight up brown ale i have had, and this stands out as a very unique recipe to me. i like it being on the darker end, keeping the sweetness down, yet also not letting the body or the booze run away, its restrained in just the right ways. i had a lot of solid brown ales in costa rica, thats a style the locals seem to be doing well there, but this was my favorite. do not miss fuego if you are in the country!
