I bought a growler of this, but it was on tap at the brewery. I had high hopes, but was quite disappointed. One of the most average porters I have ever had. Pours a dark shade of brown, similar to that of a black ale. Head was a thin light brown color that died off immediately. Almost had to dip my nose into the glass to get any hint of smell. Faint chocolate smell and not much else. Very weak flavor, almost non-existant. Tasted watered down actually. Left a thin white lacing on the glass after each drink that disappated within a matter of seconds. Very thin mouthful, not unlike a lager. Easily drinkable though and reminded me of a black ale. A good beer to introduce porters someone who doesn't normally drink them. Perhaps they would get more of a taste out of them. Definitely very unspectacular and underperforming.

Appearance: clear brown in color with some ruby highlights. Short one finger head. Some spotty lace develops.

Smell: light roasted malt tones are pleasant on the nose.

Taste: mild roasted malt profile with some soft chocolate tones, hints of prunes, and a mild bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Lightly crisp to start, smooth at the finish. Very brief aftertaste with this beer.

Drinkability: decent quaffing beer, but mild flavor profile may want your tastebuds wanting something else.

On tap at the brewpub.

Pours a dark brown (almost black) with some bits of garnet hightlights that shine through and a thin head of tan foam. Decent looking retention that leaves a smattering of lacing behind. The aroma is fairly subdued with light notes of roast, nuttiness, and coffee grinds.

The taste is roasted malts intermingled with notes of nuts and coffee. Finishes with a nice bite of hops that probably ends up being the most assertive part of the profile. The mouthfeel is light and watery with a realatively flat feel.

Liberty once again trys to mix things up with a darker beer that falls flat. Beyond the surprising hop profile, there isn't much here that really stood out. Worth a try I guess to mix things up amongst the other lighter offerings.
