The new Winterfest beer from Liberty,a hybrid of a weizenbock and roggenbier with more rye used than wheat malt but with a weizen yeast strain.Came to the table in a standard pint glass a hazed tea color with a thinner off white head atop.Aromas were more weizenbock than roggenbier with its banana and clove notes, some mild chocolate and the spicy rye more light.Phenols up front on the palate with again more chcolate, the rye is more assertive in lightly lactic and spicy finish. The alcohol is there and it shows more as it warms. An interesting hybrid,a roggenbock? Not sure but it's a creative and pretty damn good beer, the guys at Liberty are making some good stuff and are pretty creative to boot.
