On tap at Asylum. Thanks Dario.
Pours a deep, dark brown. Slight, creamy, tan head dissipates rather quickly.
Smell is more of what I expect of an old school RIS. There's roast upfront, followed by toasty malt, and a solid earthy, rich (yet still roasted) aroma.
Taste is more of what the nose promised. Any sweetness that does come through is hand-in-hand with the roasty aspect to this fine Impy stout. Malt notes of ever so slight dark bread, prune, and faint chocolate peek through.
Mouthfeel is slightly less chewy than I prefer but not thin. Carbonation is subdued.
Overall, it reminds me of older RIS's before brewers started making them sweeter. Harkens back to the 90's Old Rasputin.
