actually a new zealand pils, and a good one, done with nelson hop kief and riwaka, very modern, very well done, this place is really making some nice beer. blonde and clear from the tap at the brewery, an average height but persistent white head sits on top, bright looking brew. the nose here is awesome, still recognizable as a pils with a crackery albeit very light grain base and an appreciable fermentation profile from the lager yeast, light there too but its present, but this beer is really about the hops, and i think these varietals are wonderful in this. i get ripe green melon, lime and lime leaf, fruity summery white wine, kiwi fruit, and even like a jackfruit or something, lush and earthy, fresh and new, well grounded by the grain, clean beer, not too intense but certainly hop forward, very appealing, lemon and yellow florals as it warms, some terpene and thiol points of interest without being forced. the flavor is similar, the best parts of nelson with honeydew and lemongrass, new zealand white wine, and green table grapes too, while the riwaka comes on a little more herbal, white tea, daffodil, some tropical fruitiness there too, but this is still a pils too, love the grain pop in the center and the dry quick lagered finish, this is thirst quenching and fast drinking with pacey carbonation but also interesting at the same time, its real fresh and the hops are bold but its not green or forced despite high saturation, and there is new school balance here. this could pass as a west coast type pils, great proportions, neat hop profile that gets even more dynamic as this warms. among my favorites i had here, this is a style i love too, great beer. really solid operation!
