Poured from 440mL can into my Bierwerk Züri becher. Best by 5/23/26 -- note that BYM uses very short best-by dates, so this is still pretty darn fresh.
Appearance: dark brown with what appears to be a somewhat hazy body and a thick head of frothy dark-tan foam atop.
Smell: moderately sweet with herbal, chocolatey, and some rather weed-like aromas, along with hints of lemon. As the style goes, it's pretty good.
Taste: the hops are quite a bit more lemony here than in the aroma; it's really the dominant flavor for me. Behind that initial lemon (and moderate hop burn) are hints of roast and chocolate. I don't like it as much as their hazies or other IPAs, but it's pretty good for the style.
Mouthfeel: medium-rich body with a decent carbonation and a nicely smooth creaminess.
Overall: it's actually quite a decent beer if you like black IPA, although the lemon-forwardness does give a little bit of a furniture polish vibe. I think this one might be polarizing, but I'm growing to like it.
