Poured from a bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a hazed golden orange color with a tiny head of white foam. The head fades fast leaving a touch of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The smell is strongest of an orange citrus and a peach along with a bit of a herbal and floral smell. Along with these aromas is some notes of biscuit and a bit of melon.
Taste – The taste begins with a melon and peach flavor mixed with notes of bread and a bit of grain. At the same time there are flavors of herbal and earthy flavor mixed with notes of lychee and papaya. As the taste advances some of the grain and earth fades, all while the herbal gets a slight bit stronger and is joined by some hay and spice to leave one with a rather easy natured pale ale taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is moderate in thickness to slightly more heavy for a 4.2 % brew with a mild carbonation.
Overall – A decent and rather approachable pale ale. Nothing super special, but overall, pretty easy drinking.

In the Kirin strategy to consolidate the more mature micros in the Aussie market, I see a new consolidation. Kirin has put these several brands into Lion/Malt Shovel consortium and is calling it Fermentum Craft Beer. Sounds smart. Certainly for distribution. Let's hope it does more than consolidate and also improves flavor.
Compared to APA standards, Chef's Blend has tough competition. This Pale Looks average, could look more active. Smells are modest, not much more than malt. Tastes are balanced, just enough hops. Light by the standard, but bubbly and refreshing.
I give good Overall Hugs hoping that Kirin/Lion's strategy ends up good for crafting.
