Clear dark amber, like a golden brown, with fine-grained foam in the De Proef tulip. Figgy aroma Very sweet and unctuous, but perfectly sippable. Dark roasted malt, caramel, and fruit cake. Dark raisins and grain and burnt sugar.

Dark figgy notes in the finish with a modest but welcome bitter aftertaste. This is an excellent sweet and strong brew, whatever style it might be. From the 12 oz can purchased at the tasting room in Costa Mesa, where it was brewed. Dated 12/03/2021.

Packaged on 12/3/2021 - consumed on 5/20/2022. Poured from a tall-boy into a snifter.

Clear auburn liquid beneath an almond collar. Vague lacing; mediocre retention.

Kettle caramelized malt abounds in the nose - toffee, dates, figs, plum pudding. Some gentle hop notes emerge as well.

Burnt sugar, dark fruit, and faint nuts on the palate. Tea, chocolate, orange zest, candied ginger. Clean grassy hops. Medium finish reminds me of tawny port and pomegranate molasses.

Faintly oily, medium-bodied, low but sufficient carbonation. Low tannins, powerful but not overwhelming alcohol.

Rich, lovely take on the style, though the flavor doesn't quite live up to the nose.

On tap at Green Cheek on Orange.
Pours a rich mahogany with medium white head.
Carmel, brown sugar, and just the perfect amount of oxidation on the nose.
Complex and malty. Sweet, rum soaked raisins.
Thick, syrupy and sticky.
A phenomenal example of a traditional barleywine, but what would toy expect from Evan?

very opaque and dark in color. taste is profound, bold, rich, robust and balanced - shows character and expression. smell is very sweet and maybe a touch of sour. feel is excellent but doesn’t stand out. really a fantastic barleywine.

Right off the bat, it speaks to me like Lana Turner taking a dip with John Garfield. That being said, it doesn’t fully excite my trombone, ya feel me? Like, I’ll drink the whole damn thing and will probably enjoy it, but it’s not A+ like a Christmas without the Kardashian’s.

Go, my children. Get it while it can still be had.

Sweet, candied dark fruits and brown sugar, caramel-toffee malty nose on this one! Definitely smells the part! Taste follows with a malty-sweet, caramel and brown sugar, and raisiny fruity, finish...as it warms, some earthy bitterness peeks out just a bit. This drinks a little thin, but for 11.2% ABV, there is not one hint of booziness here. This is pretty good...and kudos for Green Cheek to brew something up out of their comfort zone. Hopefully, they barreled some of this up to add some much needed character and complexity..
