Midnight Kölsch
It’s a dark Kölsch! A fun thing that brewers Pete & Ian dreamed up while hangin in the Rave Cave™. Similar to how ya’d make cold brew coffee, we cold steeped some roasted German barley to create a similar flavor. The result dips its toes into Schwarzbier territory, but maintains the lighter body and crispness you’d expect with Kölsch, with just a kiss of some light roasted columbian coffee vibes.

Packaged on 10/6/22, consumed on 11/6/22 - poured from a 16oz can into my Uerige stange/stick.
Clear kobicha liquid with rufous highlights and a small rapidly evaporating stand of almond/bone foam. No lacing; poor retention.
Roast malt, toast, and some nutty/coffee aromas. Maybe some faint herbal/earth notes.
Quite fruity and somewhat floral palate entry - malty, but more on the clean/pils side with secondary roast notes. Sustained, medium bitterness with herbal/earthy hop flavors balancing the gentle stone-fruit like esters from the yeast and the malt backbone. Dry, faintly tart finish with some residual roasty/nutty/coffee notes.
Clean, light-bodied, gently carbonated, with light acidity and low alcohol. Not quite bright/crisp, yet more refreshing than smooth.
Interesting, well executed experiment that defies style guidelines (making this difficult to rate).

A "midnight kolsch."
Like a cross between a kolsch and schwartzbier.
Excellent.
