an absolutely masterful beer here, probably my favorite from our visit, this place is way cool too, definitely check them out if in the area, fantastic! this is a brown ale base, a pretty light one at that, but they were heavy handed with the rye malt, and so there is a lot of complexity and depth to the grain, even without darker grains, i think thats a really cool approach to the style, and to the use of the rye specifically, and the technical execution is brilliant, high level stuff here, pun intended. lighter brown color, reddish still too, short burlap colored head on it, relatively clear. the nose is subtle compared to the taste, dry and earthy for what it is, less caramel to the malt, hints of raisin, dried cherry, cocoa, tea, and toasted bread, while the flavor brings way more of the rye for me, white and black pepper, a seed thing, not sure, flax or something to it, rye bread notes, neat with the chocolate malt in this, less sweet than anticipated, a kilned grain dryness to it, baked warmth, super unique in the center with all the rye, more than most, and this ends up being a really cool all season drinker. i love the low abv, the soft texture, and the boldness of the rye, perhaps ever so slightly english on the yeast, there is an agreeable fermentation element here, mild as it is. really nice beer, i love the flavor and would drink this regularly if it were available to me here in idaho. very unique brown overall!
