wicked little bottle here, picked up at the brewery a year or two ago, really good kick off to our cherry night, spontaneous, darker, loaded with cherry, i was impressed with this, particularly the fruit authenticity and intensity, really well done! very deep crimson color to this, more clear in the first half of the bottle than the second, and it fizzes but then settles quick, a little less carbonated overall than it could be, but its a minor gripe with how good this tastes, and the color is gorgeous. it smells like the good cherry wine from denmark, port wine and fruit together, some real acid too, red wine vinegar and raspberry vinegar, almost a dressing vibe at first, some tannins, cranberry pucker, but also a lot of interesting wild funk, the ferment is awesome on this, as good as the fruit. it doesnt smell all that malty to me, but i taste a bunch of grain in this, almost more of a red base than a pale one to my senses, some caramelized type maltiness, which gives it pleasant sweetness to balance the sour as well as some needed body, but also some cool flavor depth, not over the top, and its not into like the flanders range, but its more than is common in these and it does a lot for this i reckon, maybe its boiled longer, maybe just a bit of richer crystal malt, but i like whatever they did with this part of it. all the fruit is amazing but its more than just juice, which i love. dark cherry, almost an beet root earthiness among the fruitiness, modest sweetness before a real sour back end, funky on the recall, not real woody to me for the style, vinous as it warms, sharp but drinkable too, and overall a pretty impressive specimen, surprised this hasnt gotten more attention. we had a bunch of high end kriek types after this, and it was not at all out of place with classics from belgium and the like, so the quality sure is there with this one. a touch light on carbonation, but highly recommended overall! among my favorites ever from level...
