American Black Ale brewed with massive amounts of hops to taste like a Double IPA. Blackprinz malt gives a subtle roast and coffee-like character along with giving this beer it’s unique black color. Flaked oats were used to give this beer a big mouthfeel to help the flavors linger on the palate. The hop profile is complex flavors and aromas from Chinook, Falconer’s Flight, Cascade, and Citra.

12 oz. bottle:
Pours black with a thin lasting brown head. Lacing sticks.
The smell is of deep-roasted (almost burnt) coffee, chocolate. Earthy/herbal hop aroma with a touch of citrus blends in well.
The taste is of coffee, chocolate - dark malts - with a large amount of earthy/piney/citric bitter hops. Rich malt and aggressive hops that do not clash. Alcohol warmth shows in the long finish.
It has a full, rich, smooth body.
A wonderful American Black Ale! Nice choice of malts and hops. I have noticed that sometimes in this style the roasty malt can clash with the bitterness of the hops - Not so much here. It is well-blended. A well-made example of the style!

Picked up a 64 oz growler from the brewpub 3-25-19 for $9.00. Consumed initially on 3-28-19.
Beer poured black with a decent tan head that is leaving a little lacing behind.
Nose is mild roast with a touch of coffee and fresh grapefruit.
Taste is really well balanced with the coffee roasted malt baseline and a nice incorporation of the "C" hops which lends some grapefruit and pine. Finish is moderately bitter to let you know this is an IPA.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and smooth from the flaked oats addition to the malt backbone.
Overall a really nice recipe for an out of vogue recipe. Definitely not for the masses as the beer hits multiple ends of the beer flavor spectrum. This is one to get if you like this style!
