Bayside Belgian Saison

I didn't know what to expect from a Belgian Saison brewed on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, but I was pleasantly surprised. Poured from a 16 oz can into my "Grape and gourmet" store tulip glass, this beer featured a beautiful, almost clear coppery gold color. Lots of carbonation/bubbles and a big foamy, bubbly white head. The head was about average retention and there was little lacing on the glass. Aroma and taste featured a lot of yeast, some wheat (and a bit of wheat bitterness) and a mild malty taste. The dankness/"horse blanket" aspect found in so many of the better Saisons was missing here. However as the beer warmed up. the cardamom and the orange peel made their presence known. I thought the aroma and taste were pretty good!!!! Mouthfeel was rich enough for the style and there was enough complexity with the yeast, wheat/malt and spices to keep it interesting. Good job on this one!!!
