Draft at Gourmet Haus Staudt.
Near opaque black topped by a slightly off-white head. Lot of sulfur on the nose initially, which eventually gives way to heavy banana-like esters. There are grainy notes as well, a little rye bread and black pepper, though nothing that screams dark malt. The palate, like the nose, has quite a bit of funky sulfur that's not terribly appealing. Past that I pick up banana and pear, spicy black pepper, some earthiness from the rye and dark malt. The finish is dry and grainy with a little lingering banana and tart lemon. Light bodied and pretty easy to drink, though it would be much more enjoyable without the strong sulfuric character.
