A thin, light chestnut head, is composed of fine bubbles. The beer itself is clear and very dark copper (SRM 18-20).
The aroma starts with spicy grain, followed by sweet malts. Light banana bread is distinguished, though nothing like a Weisen. Still it is unquestionably banana.
The flavor follows the nose without any subtlety. Cloves are prominent, as is mince. Opening sweet, it is followed by spicy bitterness that grows at the far end. Both are quite strong. Honey and a ton of tanginess with an interesting alcohol sensation that lingers long into the finish. The slightest warming reveals strong spiced apple cider.
The full body and slick oily texture combine to coat the palate. Alcohol, while clearly present, is well below expectations. There is no heat or warmth of any kind. Carbonation is light.
This is a fun beer with lots of interesting qualities. In particular, the spiced apple cider is remarkable.
