A beer true to its name. American Blackberry actually smells, tastes and kind of looks like blackberry pie. It looks like muddled, hazy blackberry juice topped with a fine white head and lace that sticks around long enough. Fresh - not canned - blackberries are front and center in the smell, as well as the first sip. It's a little sweet with no bitterness to be found, but it doesn't taste artificial or out of balance. It's just a full, juicy fruit beer that'd be great at a picnic.

12oz can from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 3.99. Released 12/2018. Served in a Wild Leap teku. Enjoyed 12/28/18, BA:
Pours an almost maroon tinted pale brown with a modest cap of off-white head. The bubbles gradually shrink to a few surface splotches, thin halo and some tiny, sparse dots of lace.
Smells like faint berries, mild spice and a hint of pie crust.
A heavy spice character makes the tart, earthy berry more difficult to discern. Supporting flavors of clove, crust, seeds and
Medium body with ample carbonation. The aftertaste is like desweetened, slightly over spiced blackberry pie.
Close on the heels of American Cherry, Wild Leap is back with a different take. American Blackberry seems to use the same base but for my tastes the berries don’t quite stand up to the spice as well as cherries did. Still an enjoyable brew.
