So on a random visit after a few years to the Palos de Moguer 82nd ave pub, I was lucky to find they were serving a seasonal beer on occasion for the holidays. Colón Lager.

Many things "Lager" are synonymous with good, but so are many things also synonymous with "meh" and others with bad. This one falls into the "meh" category, especially disappointing after the rather recent resurge of the bottled Colón brought us a tastier repertoire of year rounds.

Poured from a 1.5lt jug. Tries to be opaque but it was too translucent right off- like, it's some misfit. stale looking. yellowish but as though it had been washed thoroughly. very small white head.

Smell was middle of the road. and fairly unperceivable, too. soft barley feel. you could almost say "some hops" but not quite. again, a misfit. what's this, a bad koelsch spinoff?

Taste...mighty disappointment. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's not necessarily bad. it's just too watery and bland for my now americanised palate. very soft malty taste that you can't pin on either end of the spectrum- neither sweet nor dry or bitter. and medium bodied. and juuuust the minimal hops so to make anyone say "it's a beer, alright" but not really brag much about it.

So what is it about PdM that, on 2 per each 3 random visits i come out unamazed? I think i'll stick to buying their products at the supermarket. I do enjoy their bottled products very much, but this Lager seemed stale, even right from their taps. Underwhelmed.
