Got this one from the Mitra in Maarssen
From a bottle into a snifter
Best Before June 2019
Hops: HBC082, Amarillo, Citra, Simcoe
Yeast: Wyeast 1316
APPEARANCE: Pours a small, one finger, thicker looking, creamy white head with good retention. Hazy, opaque gamboge orange with no carbonation. A splotchy wisp remains until the end leaving touches of lacing down the glass as it empties. Good looking and a nice cap on this one.
SMELL: Milder nose of mango, some passionfruit and caramel and bready malt aromas as well.
TASTE: Caramel flavors, grainy flavors, some dark bread and light notes of toffee up front. Pretty malt forward. Bolder aftertaste with more malt, dark bready notes, caramel and toffee sweetness, and a hint of mango as well. This is very malt forward for sure.
PALATE: Fuller body and lower levels of carbonation. Creamy and silky on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a bit mouth-coating. Silky and smooth for the style.
OVERALL: This doesn’t have the character I’d like in a DIPA, let alone a New England example of the style. It’s too bready and malt forward, lacking the tropical fruit quality that makes this style so enjoyable. The look is nice and the feel well executed, but unfortunately it stops there. Apparently there is a volume 2 of this beer, which I'd be happy to try if I see it.
