473 mL can from the LCBO; no packaging date and served slightly chilled. Billed as a lagered amber ale.

Pours a foggy orange-amber colour, topped with nearly one finger of creamy, foamy, off white-coloured head. Two minutes later, it has been reduced to a tight collar surrounding a patch of film; great lace production over the course of the session. The aroma is muted and largely malt driven - there's hints of caramel, toasted bread and some nuttiness, with suggestions of date fruit and earthy, woodsy hops.

The flavour profile is along the same lines: toffee, toasted grains and bread, with hints of caramel apple and nuts. Just a touch of earthy, herbal hop bitterness on the back end; finishes sweet, but trends off-dry-ish. Light-medium in body, with above average carbonation that adds a frothy feel to this brew's crisp mouthfeel. Excellent drinkability - I don't usually think of ambers as viable session options, but I could actually enjoy a couple of these in a row.

Final Grade: 3.77, a B+. Market's Trance is a solid amber - errr, lagered amber ale. The added step of lagering this ale has tempered it out a bit, making for a balanced, mellow experience that I found less saccharine than a lot of Canadian ambers. For me, this can absolutely be counted as a 'pro' - though if you prefer sweet, malty ambers then I wouldn't be surprised if you disagree. I think I would buy this once in a while, if it were available locally, and I'd encourage other BAs to give it a try, too.
