Deutsches Porter
The Brew

I had this beer on-tap in a nonic glass at the brewery in Malta. The menu calls this a "German porter", which is a new one on me!

Appearance: dark brown hue with some haze to it and a finger of creamy tan foam atop.

Smell: sweet and caramelly with a bit of coffee and chocolate roast in the mix. Not bad.

Taste: combination of sweet and caramelly malt with a dry and ashy roast, with some coffee element. A decent enough porter.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a really big carbonation. The creaminess is light in intensity, but big in quantity. That works!

Overall: this porter falls prey to something a lot of craft porters do — the balance is just a little too much toward the sweet side. Still, not too bad.
