This is a Skibsøl. It's a low abv smoked ale that was traditionally brewed for Danish sailors in the 18th and 19th centuries. I guess if more brewers take on this style, then it can have it's own category.
L: A clear dark brown with almost no head and recedes quite quickly.
S: Burnt malts, smoky.
T: Smoky but not overwhelming, a little nutty sweetness.
F: Light bodied and moderate to high carbonation.
O: At 3.8 this is on the high side for abv. Historically they were mostly under 3%. I enjoyed this one. Very similar to a Rauchbier, but it is an ale.
