Collaboration with Brasserie Dieu du Ciel!
Our collaboration with dear friends at Dieu du Ciel! emerges from the shadow of its patriarch not as an ale, but a lager. Clean threads of flavour sewn together with a charcoal needle: sharp, fresh-cracked espresso attacks the nose, shrouding hints of currant and blueberry in its embrace, while a smoky backbone marries these flavours to the dark chocolate and nutty malt character. A hint of sweetness cushions a surpisingly spry finish, leaving one to ask: if temptation tastes this good...

over the moon to see this on tap in idaho, love du ciel, and have not seen much of their beer here, a cool collaboration. great baltic porter here, tons of character, from raisin to espresso to campfire to rich chocolate, it comes together well for its complexity, and the lager yeast can be tastes, a little old worldy to me, unifying, and definitely drying, i cant believe how fast the finish is here for such a rich beer, just smooth as heck too. the nose is a little muted compared to the taste, but i like them both. the coffee character is strong, fresh, and nuanced, with some dark berry and dried fruit to it, lightly oily too, well integrated, neat warming roastiness through the whole thing, enough bitterness, but its not all that intense, just helps this be balanced against the malt. a chocolate middle, some earthy smoke, a suggestion of peat here, a mild woodiness, and then the lager yeast and even some minerals coming through, trace licorice and molasses too. a mellow velvety feel, not too heavy for what it is, and not all that much alcohol on it either. impressive in quality and uniqueness, an excellent winter sipper, i hope to drink this again. great base baltic porter, cool coffee profile, i can taste everything. expensive but worth it, lovely overall!

Got in a BIF from Coronaeus. 12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 3/21/2019. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 2 finger dense/creamy/rocky tan head with amazing retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Amazing appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of vanilla, licorice, molasses, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, herbal, wood, grass, peppercorn, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/black/roast/bready malts, coffee, and earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark/brown bread/crust; with lighter notes of vanilla, licorice, molasses, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, charcoal, herbal, wood, grass, peppercorn, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, woody, grassy, peppery hops; and roast/charcoal bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, dark roasted coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, dark/brown bread/crust, vanilla, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, herbal, wood, grass, peppercorn, pine, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts, coffee, and earthy hop flavors; with a nice hop/char bitter/sweet balance, and minimal acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Perfectly clean lager flavors, no yeasty notes. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and fairly sticky/chalky/resinous mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.6%. Overall this is an amazing Baltic porter! All around amazing complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts, coffee, and earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the ABV with the modestely bitter/resinous/charred/drying finish. A bit aggressive, but not overwhelming on bitterness. Amazingly clean and super rich malts, fruity/nutty coffee complexity, and earthy hop presence/balance. Lightly sweet with lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing spot on style example. Reminds me of Peche Mortel a lot on the bitterness and coffee intensity; and makes sense since it is a collab with Dieu Du Ciel! They nailed it.

This one pours a very dark black color, with a small foamy mocha-colored head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells rather incredible- with chocolate, freshly roasted coffee, smoke, caramel, dark fruit, etc.
This is definitely drier and more bitter than regular Peche Mortel, but still awesome. There's some smoke and spice, with dark chocolate, roasted malt, caramel, and raisin and berries. There's so much awesomeness going on here. You had to know that if Dieu de Ciel was collaborating and it has coffee- it's gonna be pretty incredible.
This is creamy, but crisp and super clean at the same time, with a crisp and snappy level of carbonation.
This is my introduction to Godspeed- and what an introduction it is. I need to explore them much more thoroughly now.

Introduced to the market yesterday and while I didn't sample on its release, I have bought six cans to take home. Despite of the Godspeed association, this has to be compared to Peche and it falls short. There is (sadly) more emphasis on the chocolate, as opposed to the coffee, which is not a surprise, if Godspeed wants to sell it in its retail store, seeing as Peche Mortel is now officially illegal to retail in Ontario (due to its high caffeine content....don't ask).
More bitter than Peche (including the nose), I also detect cinnamon and/or nutmeg.
Stout lovers will love this but I won't purchase again.
