One cannot truly understand the depth of the Czech Brewing philosophy until he/she has made it to the country and hook up with the greatest beer inspirations and personalities of the Czech Republic.

Back in November 2018, Our brewmaster was selected to be part of a Czech Republic Trade Mission hosted by the Czech American Embassy and Canadian Consulate Economic & Trade Sections. This trip was such a revelation and by far far one of our brewmaster‘s best beer trips ever.

Godspeed‘s fascination for the Czech Brewing philosophy and culture is growing day by day. This Světlý Ležák 12º is only the begining of a long journey and friendship with the Czech brewing culture and people. We are now studying and sourcing some of the finest Czech raw materials for designing our new Czech Lagers made with the true Czech brewing philosophy.

We’ve never been that excited!

A 355ml can dated 4/Jun/2025. Poured into a pint glass. a one finger off white head on a very slightly hazy light amber. the head diminished to a layer. Some patchy lacing.

Smells of grain and hops. Tastes of bread and crackers. Some caramel. Sweet at first, then dries. A lasting mild resiny hop finish.

Smooth mouthfeel. A medium/light body with good carbonation

Canned 4/25/23; drank 10/8/23 @ the Yarchives.

See-through dull yellow appearance.

A rough pour yielded a big, noisy eggshell-colored head; a thick curtain of lacing remained.

Dandelion, mild skunk spray & faint honey notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Dandelion flavors up front; mild skunk spray & faint honey notes on the finish.

Yeah, it's a bit skunky, but it's also drinkable. Not one I'll seek out again, though.

Pours a bright clear golden with large puffy white head - beautiful beer.
Aroma is grassy and bready - noble hops - grainy malt, just a touch fruity and floral.
Taste is crackery, grainy malt, a bit of fruity note, just a hint of sulphur and a not insignificant noble hop hit with a bright bitterness.
Crisp medium mouthfeel with brisk carbonation and a lingering bitterness.

Deep brassy golden tone, unfiltered with a steady plume of tightly beaded bubbles rising rapidly. A rocky white head billows up and above the rim, leaving behind chunky irregular lacing, and lasting surface coverage.

Aroma is straightforward, milled grains and grassy noble hops, with a hint of lager yeast that has a unique signature.

Moderately hoppy, grassy dandelion greens lend a resiny finish, after the crackery malt passes through. Smooth and round with a lasting resiny hop bitterness. Medium bodied with ample carbonation, finishes dry. Very drinkable, this is a very crisp and hoppy Czech Pils. It drinks more like an IPL even. First beer from these guys, i’m impressed!

Bright gold body, haze, with a full, frothy white head, owning a couple minutes solid retention.
Aroma is grainy-sweet malt, light caramel, simple and pure. Low floral hops.
Clean malt flavours, with a prominent balancing hop bitterness that builds through to the lengthy finish, becoming mildly pithy. Low hop flavour, allowing the grainy, caramel malt to come through. Medium body and carbonation. Wouldn't call it crisp, but it is refreshing. Very dry finish. The palate does adjust over time, resulting in a nice balance of sweet malt & bitterness.

This is a pretty solid example for the style, perhaps a faint touch more bitterness than I'd expect, but the balance is near perfect, with sublime simplicity of flavour. I can drink this all day.

Can: Poured a clear yellow color pilsner with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of fresh cereal notes with light residual sugar notes and light floral notes is quite enjoyable. Taste is also a great mix of clean cereal notes with some light herbal notes with some residual sugar notes and a semi-dry finish. Body is about average with good carbonation. Solid pilsner with great drinkability and balance.

Got one can from a fellow Beeradvocate member through a trade. Thanks Coronaeus!
view: deep amber color with a good amount of head. simply beautiful.
Smell: Full of sweet maltiness and grain.
Taste: Surprisingly, it was hop forward, albeit noble hop taste. And then the maltiness came through, a quite interesting mix!
The feel was a little bit flat, but the aftertaste was excellent. Clean and crisp.

I can't recommend this beer enough, if people can find it!

Got in a BIF from Coronaeus. 12 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 2/26/2019. Pours crystal clear deep golden amber color with a 1 finger dense and rocky off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big cracker, white bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, light honey/nuttiness, wood, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bready malts and earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big cracker, white bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, light honey/nuttiness, wood, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, herbal, floral, woody, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of cracker, white bread dough/crust, toasted biscuit, light honey/nuttiness, wood, pepper, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malts and earthy hop flavors; with a great malt/bitterness balance, and no lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with no fruity/yeasty notes present. Moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and carbonation. Medium-plus carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Light lingering resins/rinds after the finish. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is an awesome Euro pale lager. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of bready malts and earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and pretty refreshing to drink with the moderately bitter/drying finish. Not overly aggressive, very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Very clean and nicely rich Pils/Munich malt showcase, with perfectly balanced noble hop presence. Zero residual sweetness from crisp resin dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and impressively well made style example. It was darker on malt, and more bitter than expected though.

This is the first beer from Godspeed I thought was really good, albeit I haven't had them all, or all in optimum condition. This is almost letter perfect Czech brewing, as good virtually as Urquell tankovna and that's saying lot (a little lighter and less barleyish).

Top marks and if they make this year round to this standard, it's the best lager in Ontario and probably Canada.
