One cannot truly understand the depth of the Czech Brewing philosophy until he/she has made it to the country and hook up with the greatest beer inspirations and personalities of the Czech Republic.

Back in November 2018, Our brewmaster was selected to be part of a Czech Republic Trade Mission hosted by the Czech American Embassy and Canadian Consulate Economic & Trade Sections. This trip was such a revelation and by far far one of our brewmaster‘s best beer trips ever.

Godspeed‘s fascination for the Czech Brewing philosophy and culture is growing day by day. This Tmavý Ležák 12º is only the begining of a long journey and friendship with the Czech brewing culture and people. We are now studying and sourcing some of the finest Czech raw materials for designing our new Czech Lagers made with the true Czech brewing philosophy.

We’ve never been that excited!

Had on lukr tap. Brownish black opaque body, full light brown head, dotted lacing. Smells of roasted malt, cocoa, dark chocolate, dark grains, and earth. Taste is led by the roasted malts and cocoa, touch of toasted caramel with dark grains, deep earth and maybe even a touch of pipe tobacco. Feel is dry and full while staying lighter in weight, smooth, an easy drinker with dark depths

At Erie Street Gastropub on Erie Street East in nearby downtown Windsor; canned and chilled, 355mL in a pint glass. Leading my weekly Responsible Beer Drinking Club outing. My 7th by the Toronto brewery, and 4th for 2025.

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz can poured into my .5L dimple mug. date stamp is kn3h17 ???
The beer pours a rich cola brown and almost no light passes through my mug as it fills the glass. A creamy khaki colored head of .5 cm foams up and fades quickly to a sturdy edge layer. This edging remains through the sampling and generates some scattered lattice on each sip.
Aroma on this beer is some roasted malts, a bit of coffee ground and some black tea hop notes. Nothing sweet on this aroma and low ABV is as expected hidden from my nose.
First sip reveals a light to medium body with fine tingly carbonation and very smooth texture. This beer wont last long as the physical traits make it super easy to drink.
Flavor is as advertised with roasted malt and some dark cocoa mixing with some bitter coffee note and a bit of tea bite as well. Finish is very dry and encourages me to take another sip. ABV totally hidden and my mug is almost empty.
Enjoyable dark lager, glad to have tried this one.

Can purchased at Bar Isabel in Toronto, Ontario.

This one pours a fairly dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like dark chocolate, pleasantly spicy roast character, some herbal notes, and coffee.

Godspeed is one of the best lager producers in the world, so it’s not surprising even a little bit that this is quite good. It’s creamy, roasty, and just with a spot on malt character I want in a dark lager. There’s a touch of spicy hop character.

This is light bodied, but creamy and full for the style, with a great drinkability overall.

This is fantastic, but I’m not shocked about that at all.

Super excited to try this courtesy of @coronaeus, as I LOVE dark lagers. Pour is reddish brown settling to a dark, dark brown in the glass. The highlight of the appearance is the beautiful head. Robust and long lasting with noticeable air pockets interspersed throughout. Excellent lacing Overall a very attractive beer.

Aroma has loads of dark roasted malts. Simple and clean on the nose. More importantly, this beer tastes amazing. It greets you with tons of roasted malts, even more so than on the nose. The roast is enough to almost hint at smokiness, although it's not actually smoky. It's super clean and easy drinking, with a more robust mouthfeel than I anticipated.

Overall, very good beer. I could drink this all day (but alas, this one lasted about 5 minutes)

Darker amber/brown color. Appears clear. Minor head which leaves a couple small streaks on the glass.

Darker malt toasty aroma initially then there’s some off smells of pea soup and rotting vegetables. My family thought it smelled like wet wood.

Caramel, dry, and more off-putting elements. Decent body with an elevated carbonation. Appropriately, there isn’t much hop. Short finish and aftertaste.

Pours a dark black, with an off tan head of one finger that dissipates. Collapses into a very dense, one millimetre thick cap. Smells follow the palate — Coffee, deeply roast malt, highly toasted and slightly roasted toast. The roasted flavours are so complex in their depth and palpable it as if you were genuinely drinking the roasted, toasted malts, barley, and bread itself. It feels almost thick in the mouth, with good but slightly less than typical carbonation, a great prickliness on the palate.

If you like the bitterness from burnt and roasted malts, and complex burnt flavours this beer is right up your alley. Different from a stout, a little more crisp, this is absolutely delicious. Thick lines that float down lace the entire glass. Better than the amber in my mind. Amazing stuff

Poured a 355ml can into a pint glass. A one finger brown head on black. The head diminishes to a thin layer.
Coffee in the nose. Lightly burnt toast.
Coffee and toast again in the taste. Some other interesting flavours that I can't place.
Medium body and carbonation.
A smooth and well balanced Dark Lager. True to the style and well worth a try.
