In Czechia, picking hops isn’t simply a part of local agriculture, it is a right of passage. Under communism, Czechs in every high school and university were sorted into "hop brigades" each summer, where they helped farmers tend and pick their immaculate crops of Saaz in Žatec. For this year's rotating batch of Hoppy Czech Lager, our brewmaster selected a newer hop variety in Premiant to showcase notes of lemon pith, lavender, and a hint of spice. Cheers!

Can: Poured a clear golden yellow color lager with a large white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of cereal notes with some very dry hoppy notes. Taste is also a mix of clean cereal notes with some very dry hoppy notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Great lager but maybe overly dry front he hops.

Single 12 ounce can packaged Oct 23/24. ABV on can 5.3% - see suggestion of 5.5% (and Untapped clocks it at 5.1%). The print is red and small but with the reading glasses it is 5.3%. They call it a Hoppy Czech-Style Lager.
Pours a clear apricot golden colour with a finger plus of creamy puffy white head.
Nose of spicy herbal hops (an initial sulphur hit does not last), lemon, floral notes, hints of bread and I swear I get a touch of smokiness.
Citrus/lemon zest on the palate, spicy and floral hops, bready malts, and again I get a soft smoky flavour. A bit of building bitterness at the back.
Solid medium mouthfeel with a richness from the carbonation and spicy slightly herbal bitter finish.

Mine had 5.5% on the label. At my lady Pamela's house; canned, from Small Batch Dispatch's 2024 Advent Calendar. My fourth from the Toronto brewery, and first for 2025.

Shoutout to Coronaeus for sending me what is surprisingly my first European Strong Lager review in his LIF box. It basically sounds like a European take on an IPL by way of Canada. Let’s crack it open and see what it’s all about
Pours a lightly cloudy deep gold with 3 fingers of soapy off white head that slowly fades to a cap and leaves decent lacing
This is very bright in the nose, just loads of citrus. I’m picking up on aromas of lemon juice, lime zest, orange zest, crackery malt, floral hops, res grapefruit, black pepper, and light grass
Things go into more of a bitter citrus direction in taste instead of the tartness I was expecting but I still enjoy it. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting pithy grapefruit, lemon zest, earthy hops, bready malt, orange zest, light honey, and black pepper. The swallow brings notes of pithy grapefruit, lemon zest, lime zest, crackery malt, earthy hops, black tea, and light grass
A medium body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a crisp beer. Finishes bone dry and very bitter
Oh yeah, this one is damn good. A shame that I won’t be able to get more of it

Pure gold body, thick unfiltered haze, with a cloud white head that holds for a minute or so.
An intriguing blend of pineapple, resin, and coriander spice hop aromas, cracked wheat, something musty/funky.
Hops hit first, like a pine forest, biting and brisk, followed by a silky caramel/toffee malt backbone balancing things out, before turning once again to hops, adding a cleansing bitter and dry finish; a subtle and unique flavour creeps in after a few sips, lingering in the finish - like a fermented bitter citrus peel; body is crisp and fresh, bright, medium carbonation.
I really enjoyed this - super dry, refreshing, emphasizing the characteristics of the ingredients.
