Brewed for our annual smoked beer celebration, Eins Zwanzig (meaning: ‘1/20’) is our love letter to Bamberg - the Smoked Beer capital of the world. Using a calculated blend of cherry wood smoked malt, oak smoked malt, and beechwood smoked malt, our 2025 version of Rauchbier features classic notes of honey-glazed ham and crusty bread with a hint of floral hop character. Lagered for seven weeks and naturally carbonated, Eins Zwanzig brings to mind endless hours spent gulping back beers at Spezial, Schlenkerla, and many other influential breweries of a town that’s become deeply embedded in our deep admiration for Smoked Beer. Prost!

A 355ml can dated Jan 14, 2025. Poured into a pint glass. A solid one finger off white head on a very slightly hazy amber brown. The head diminishes to a layer. Lots of patchy lacing.
Smoke in the nose. The fist sip is an interesting smoke blend. Some caramel. Malt forward with a very mild hop character. Slight cherry. Fruity notes. A long smokey finish. The smoke dissipates somewhat towards the end of the glass.
The mouthfeel is fairly smooth. Medium body and lightly carbonated. Overall a fine Rauchbier. The subdued smoke allows some of the malt flavour to be expressed. Definitely a sipper.

Pretty thorough smoked beer, intensity leads to sipping rather than crushing. Meets the style for sure, and something for those that appreciate this style.

Muddy light brown body with glimmers of copper, it has some haze, forming a thick and steady head with distinct bubbles, great retention.
Campfire and caramel malt on the nose.
The taste follows the nose with distinct peat smoky earthiness, sweet caramel malt, balanced nicely with bitter hops in the finished; medium body and carbonation; lightly crisp with a whisper of oiliness, finishing dry and begging for another sip.
Flavourful and focused, all around balanced, this a solidly crafted benchmark for the style.
